Pickups for a Les Paul Special

I recently bought a 2001 Les Paul Special. It's got Burstbucker 3s, and boy are they noisy when I use distortion... lots of hiss when I'm not playing, and they easily feed back in the squeally, non-musical way.

So needless to say I'm in the market for some new pickups. I tend to play extreme metal, punk, and hardcore. I don't usually tune below D standard. I've had a Duncan Invader in an old SG and liked it. A friend recommended a DiMarzio Norton...

    any suggestions?

FWIW, I settled for a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and a Dimarzio D Activator in the neck.
